Mijas is a beautiful little village which is located on the mountainside, about 430 metres or 1476 feet above the sea level. Its center is a typical Andalusian white-washed village, Mijas Pueblo. In Mijas belongs also the coastal area, which is called La Cala de Mijas and Las Lagunas, which is largely integrated with Fuengirola. The coastal areas are also known as Mijas Costa, especially the villages Calahonda, Riviera and La Cala de Mijas.

Mijas is also a major tourist attraction. It has local historical museums and a great variation of different kinds of souvenir shops and a chocolate factory in which you can make your own chocolate. In the municipality there are also seven golf courses and even more are under construction. Also the biggest golf resort in Spain, La Cala Resort, is situated in Mijas.
